Wordpress 2.5 Due Out in March

The current version of Wordpress is 2.3.2. You might be expecting Wordpress 2.4 soon but as it turns out version 2.4 will be skipped. The next release will be Wordpress 2.5 and it’s due out in March. The reason for skipping version 2.4 is that Wordpress 2.5 was planned for release in March, and since the development cycle for 2.4 has slipped, the developers decided to skip 2.4 and aim for 2.5.

Wordpress 2.5 will have a redesigned administration interface. That’s good news to a lot of people and bad news for others. For example, the new design could break a lot of plugins that insert custom fields in the post and page writing interface. We’ve had a look at the new interface, and frankly, we think the color combination is ugly! But hopefully there will be a way to create our own themes for the administration interface. You can see the new rust and baby blue color scheme for yourself over at Hyper SVN. Keep in mind that the demo over at Hyper SVN isn’t feature complete and the code is still very much under development. But at least you can get a peek at it.
