Just about everybody wants to get their site linked on other sites. After all, having incoming links to your site helps boost your page rank in search engines. We created a plugin for Wordpress that lets people submit their own links to a Wordpress blog.
The plugin can display a custom HTML form and people can enter a title, URL, and description. After the form is submitted the data is put into a regular Wordpress post where the title is then linked to provided URL. A list of “link” posts can then be displayed just like any other set of posts in Wordpress. You can configure which categories the “link” posts go into, and the form also uses captcha to help prevent spamming. Posts can potentially be added as a “Draft” so that they don’t appear immediately on the site. The plugin could notify you when someone submits a new link and then you can review it to determine whether or not you want to publish it or delete it.
One major advantage of having link submissions added as posts is that people can write comments about the linked sites, if you allow comments on your blog. You can also use a rating plugin to let people vote the links up or down, similar to the voting style seen at Digg.
