Product Description
WP e-Commerce Role Control allows you to assign user roles to products and use those roles to control access to other services, or content, or items.
For example:
- Control access to your support forums.
- Control access to specific pages on your site
- Control access to specific files outside of your cart. For example, sell information in PDF files and users that buy a PDF also get access to online videos at your site.
- Sell access to capabilities, such as the ability to post articles on your site, or the ability to edit posts on your
site. - And more! Anything you can control with users roles can be sold using this add-on module!
NOTE: WordPress uses 5 default roles: Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, and Subscriber. YOU CAN ADD MORE ROLES using a simple free plugin such as User Role Manager. There is no limit to the number of roles that you can create!
PRACTICAL USE:
The way WP e-Commmerce Role Control works is like this:
- You do NOT have to define a role for every product! Setting a role for any particular product is entirely optional.
- When you configure new or existing products you will see on the product editor page a new meta box called Role Control. In that section you can optionally set a role to be associated with the product. You can also optionally set an expiration date for when the role is no longer valid.
- Expiration dates are set for X number of days. There is no limit to the number of days that a role is valid. And, setting the value to 0 or leaving it blank makes the role valid indefinitely.
- When a buyer purchases an item with a role assigned to it then the buyer’s WP user role is modified to that role when the payment is complete.
- Keep in mind that you can use this plugin to sell access to roles. See the examples below:
* You’re selling a product called “My Excellent Product”.
* You have the Simple Forums plugin installed to provide support to your customers.
* Your support forum has 10 different forums. 5 are public and open to anyone. The other 5 are private and only available to paying customers.
* You’ve defined a new role called “Support” using the free User Role Manager plugin. Your 5 private forums are set to only allow access to users who have the “Support” role.
* You configure “My Excellent Product” to have the “Support” role, and you’ve set the expiration for 30 days.
* A customer buys “My Excellent Product” and pays via PayPal. Immediately upon completing the payment successfully WP e-Commerce Role Control changes the buyer’s role to “Support” and records the role expiration date.
* The customer now has instant access to your 5 private support forums for 30 days. At the end of 30 days the customer’s “Support” role is automatically removed and they no longer have access to your 5 private forums.
